ANNUAL REPORT

2020

MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR

Alfonso Márquez

Chairman of the Board

We start each year with goals, expectations and a spirit of adventure, renewal and drive to embark on a new journey. 2020 was no exception and we kicked it off without foreseeing the storm we would have to face.

Fundación Paso del Norte was born with the mission to improve the health, well-being and quality of life in Ciudad Juárez. Therefore, when the pandemic reached our community and threatened the prosperity of this border, we had to redouble our efforts to continue our community programs and also activate extraordinary strategies to support the most vulnerable sectors and people.

In response to the epidemic we mobilized and invested more than $3 million pesos to purchase medical supplies and protective equipment that we donated to the health sector. We also provided provisions and tons of food aid distributed to the most vulnerable families in our community. In addition, given the insecurity and violence problems we face, we continued our partnership with FICOSEC to finance social projects to address and prevent gender violence and benefit thousands of women in the southeast of the city. Our matching funds program “Reto por la Salud” remained active and allowed us to fund various health and wellness projects that benefited people with disabilities, the elderly, children and adolescents in conditions of vulnerability. Finally, after the community spent months in lockdown, we took to the streets with our “Juárez en Acción” campaign, in which more than 15,000 Juarez residents participated in volunteering and community work throughout Ciudad Juárez.

Today, more than ever, we must join forces to strengthen the role of social organizations in our path to recovery after this crisis, as they are the vehicle we citizens have to address the problems that affect our well-being.

This annual report, in addition to being a testament to our work, represents our deepest gratitude to our donors, board members, volunteers and collaborators for making each of our initiatives possible. Without their invaluable support, we would not be able to report these excellent results.

Let us continue to navigate together, for as long as there are opportunities to improve the health and well-being of the families of Ciudad Juárez, we will continue to work.
